SPICED PEAR PANDOWDY

Ingredients

2/3 cup packed brown sugar

3 tbsp Longo’s Organic All Purpose Flour

2 tsp Longo’s Essentials Ground Cinnamon

2 tsp Longo’s Essentials Ground Ginger

1/2 tsp Longo’s Essentials Ground Nutmeg

Pinch salt

8 cups chopped, peeled Ontario pears (about 8 large, ripe pears)

6 tbsp Longo’s Country Churned Salted Butter, melted and divided

1 sheet Longo’s Puff Pastry (half a 450g pkg), thawed according to package directions

Vanilla ice cream (optional)

Directions

Blend brown sugar with flour, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and salt until well combined; sprinkle over pears. Drizzle with 4 tbsp melted butter and gently toss to coat. Transfer to a buttered 7 x 11-inch baking dish.

Unroll pastry sheet and cut into squares roughly 1 1/2 inches in diameter (they don't have to be perfectly even). Arrange pastry squares over pears, overlapping slightly but allowing gaps. Brush pastry with remaining butter.

Bake in preheated 425°F oven for 25 minutes; reduce oven temperature to 325°F and continue to bake for 25 to 30 minutes more or until pears are tender and juices are thick and bubbling.

Remove from oven; gently press pastry into juices (but do not submerge). Cool for 15 minutes before serving with ice cream, if using.

A Dash of Advice

Tent with foil during second half of the baking time if pastry starts to overbrown.
